Pre-production

LGC FM Questionnaire Analysis

LGC FM is the name of the radio station that our group has created.
We decided to base our radio shows on video games and films, with music in between.
As part of the pre-production process, our group was required to create a questionnaire on Survey Monkey for the students within the class, which asked them questions based on the content of our show.

This is the analysis of that questionnaire.

Question 1:

lgc-fm-survey-q1-results

Out of the 17 people who answered the survey, 12 people wanted FIFA 17 advertised on
LGC FM.
In comparison, the second most popular answer, Pokémon Sun/Moon got only 3/17 votes.

FIFA is a computer game based on the sport of football and is developed by Electronic Arts (EA). With an overwhelming majority voting for FIFA, it is clear that LGC FM will need to include the advertisement within its broadcasts.

However, the results also show that the majority of LGC FM’s listeners are into sport- so a sports news section could possibly be included within the show.

Question 2:lgc-fm-survey-q2-results

There was a more diverse opinion about this question than the previous one about video games. This question was multiple choice, so it allowed respondents to pick which films they liked the most and vote for them to be advertised.

Out of the 17 people surveyed; 6 people voted for Star Wars: Rogue One as one of their most anticipated upcoming films of 2017.
5 votes were received for both Fast (and Furious) 8 and Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
4 votes were received for both Doctor Strange and Toy Story 4…
And finally, only 1 vote was received for Justice League.

The fact that every film listed got at least one vote shows that the audience of LGC FM are very interested in films, so advertising them is vital if the radio station is to succeed.
However, the trailers will need to be audible enough to be entertaining for the audience.

Question 3:

lgc-fm-survey-q3-results

Respondents had a variety of different responses when it came to the music that they wanted to hear on LGC FM. This was probably due to the question being worded in a confusing way; this is evidenced by the three people who didn’t answer this question: presumably, they were unsure how to.

However, some genres were mentioned, including rock, urban music, hip-hop and rap.
One of the respondents even said that they would listen to anything that was played.

Question 4:

lgc-fm-survey-q4-results

Video game soundtracks have been improving over the years, so LGC FM asked a question regarding the use of video game soundtracks and whether they should be included on the radio.

13 out of the 17 people surveyed said that video game soundtracks should be included on LGC FM.
The response given was surprising considering the first question’s results, as all 17 respondents voted for a video game to advertise.

Despite this, 4/17 people voted that LGC FM should not broadcast video game soundtracks.

However, if LGC FM were to follow the NO voters, 13 of the 17 respondents would lose interest in LGC FM, therefore LGC FM will be including video game soundtracks within their broadcasts.

Question 5:

lgc-fm-survey-q5-results

Only 13 of the 17 people surveyed answered this question.
Of those who did, 8 people said that the afternoon would be the best time to broadcast on LGC FM. Therefore, all shows broadcast on LGC FM will be produced in the afternoon to accommodate the request of the respondents.

As the survey was only given to students, this was a predictable result.

However, if people outside of the college were surveyed, the difference between the votes would have been much smaller.

Radio Influences- who, what and why?

Our show is partly based on video games.
However, they have been a part of my life ever since I first picked up a SEGA Mega Drive controller at the age of 2, so I’d consider my knowledge worthy enough to combine them into radio.

Unfortunately, somebody- or some company rather, already came up with the idea.

SEGA, the company famous for making Sonic The Hedgehog (aka the “blue blur”) have created their own radio station, named Radio SEGA.

Here is an example of a broadcast from their specialist show, Saturday Night SEGA.

Radio Sega is my influence because it

First Rehearsal

I didn’t expect the first rehearsal to go very well because my group had never done anything within the field of radio before. It didn’t- and originally I thought it was one of the worst things I had done in my life.

However, after looking back, I remembered something important:

I was not the main presenter.

I originally wanted to be presenter, however Sammy wanted to do it more so I gave him his chance. We also agreed on a compromise; instead of being the guest I was the second presenter in the show.

Listening to the recording, a few things went wrong. I’ll name them later.

Second Rehearsal

Two practice recordings done. None I am satisfied with.
